Here's another update on the Bouzouki. I just completed the neck joint and glued the fretboard on. The FB Extension is not glued yet so I can take it apart and finish them seperately. I need to level the fretboard and do the inlays, carve the neck, and fret, then on to the finish. Getting close! Thanks for looking. Tracy |

This may actually be a stupid question, but what are the characteristics of a bozuki, and how is it tuned? Al |

Beautiful job! This is the first time I've ever seen a Bouzouki. The first (and only) time I've heard one - assuming it was a real Bouzouki - was in the Monty Python skit "The Cheese Shop". They were not kind to the Bouzouki player. But, it is a very funny skit. Phil |

Thanks all! I've only played one once before, and that is why I'm building one so I can learn to play it. I like the mandolin, but the neck is too small. The bouzouki is a compromise between a guitar and a mandolin. It has 8 strings (4 courses) and tuned to GDAD. This shape is not the traditional onion on a stick shape, but I like the ability to rest it on your thigh while playing. The traditional teardrop shape seems to slide down your leg why playing in a sitting position. Serge, I'll get a recording of it as soon as I get it finished. Phil, that is hilarious about Monty Python ![]() Tracy |

1) Tracy, I'm kidding of course...it looks sweet. 2) I've been on vacaition on the Sunny Beaches of San Diego and Carlsbad. Visited family and tried to get some relaxation in to prevent a complete meltdown. I'm back and ready to finish my "Deux". My spirit needed the break badly. -j. |

Mark, You'll have to take some pics of your progress. Will it be the onion on a stick shape or a guitar shape? I'm using a butt joint with bolt inserts. This is the first time to use this. It is much easier cutting the neck angle, but can be just as difficult fitting the neck. I do like square necks, I think I'll just string it up now ![]() Tracy |

Thanks Karen, I just hope it doesn't pop like bubble gum when I string it up! I'll be a little late Thurs night, but I'll help you when I get there if Robbie hasn't already. I'll probably be carving my neck Thurs night. Peter, the scale is 25.4" same as a regular guitar. The nut width is 36mm(1 3/8") and 46mm(1 3/4") at the 12th fret. A little smaller than a steel string, but with 4 course strings, it should equate to a guitar neck. Should be fun to play. Tracy |

Ok, here's a picture of the "onion" that I'm working on right now. It's got walnut back and sides, spruce top and mahogany neck. That peghead overlay is cocobolo, and it'll have cocobolo binding and trim. ![]() |

I built one for a friend who travels with it a lot, and flies on airplanes. it's small enough for a carry-on, and he says never to tell them in security that you have a bouzouki in that case! |

Hurry up, Tracy! I want to see some finish on that thing. I think the wood is really gonna "pop" under finish, and I'm especially interested to see how that wedge of sycamore turns out. Looking good! Steve |

Thanks guys! Going fast as I can. Mark, your onion looks great! What is the scale on that? Mine is 25.4. Maybe you can post some pics when it is finished and some sound clips. Great job so far, I love the wood combination. Tracy |
